TruTalents® are 14 talent or skill areas across three categories that are critical for career success.  The 14 areas were derived by analyzing many surveys asking employers what qualities they were looking for when hiring, retaining and promoting workers. Different jobs require unique combinations of these TruTalents. There are similarities between TruTalents and soft skills, workplace skills, and transferable skills. Examples
HVAC mechanics typically focus on the following TruTalents:
  • Organization - To manage schedules, prioritize tasks, and complete multiple mechanical tasks each day efficiently.
  • Assertiveness - They often work independently and need to manage their business or their individual work assignments and clients.
  • Ingenuity - To troubleshoot complex issues, keep up with new technology, and identify cost-effective solutions for clients.
Retail Salespeople typically focus on the following TruTalents:
  • Sociability - For regular communication with customers, building trust, and handling inquiries.
  • Consideration - To understand how their actions influence customer interactions and better address customer needs.
  • Ingenuity - To proactively drive sales, identify and anticipate customer needs, and suggest suitable products.
These examples show that, while Ingenuity appears in both roles, it is expressed differently in each context. The expression of a TruTalent depends on the specific needs of the role.
